The Value of Workplace Wellness
A briefing and luncheon by the Care Continuum Alliance and the Congressional Wellness Caucus, with support by OptumHealth

On Oct. 24, 2011, the Care Continuum Alliance and Congressional Wellness Caucus, through the offices of co-sponsors Reps.
Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., and
Ron Kind, D-Wis., hosted a briefing to highlight employer initiatives in workplace wellness. They convened to answer a key question: What are the hallmarks of an effective employee health promotion program?
This briefing educated members of Congress and their staffs about the value of workplace wellness, employer attitudes toward health and wellness programs and case studies of successful initiatives for improving the lives of employees and their dependents. The experiences of the nation's employers, as conveyed at this event, offer important and timely lessons for policymakers as they face the challenges of deficit reduction, escalating health care costs and rising rates of chronic disease.
